There are 4 more months to go and the dividend collected so far has not exceeded last year total payout but it should be on target for the year. For those who have been reading investment blogs frequently might have come across a blogger who has managed to collect $1.5 million of dividend over 20 years. You can find the blog here if you have not read it. It seems to be a very far target to hit but we are all working hard towards that.

The focus for this week news is about 'Emerging Markets Contagion' after a few big US investment firms gave warning that capital outflow could spread further in these markets. Indonesia became the next country affected by weakening currency after Argentina and Turkey, and this could possibility lead to the next Asian financial crisis similar to the one in 1998. India looks like it is going to be hit next in line. The main reason for the contagion could be attributed to the rising rates in US. When the US interest rate is near 0, money flows to the emerging markets looking for higher returns. As the US economy improves, the central banks increase the interest rates and money started to flow out of the emerging markets back into US. The raising US dollar also resulted in the outflow of money from the emerging markets. Despite the negative news, GIC's CEO suggested that there could be opportunities amid the emerging markets contagion. If the $200 billion tariffs on China also come into effect, the market will be set for a correction.

There are always two sides to every story and the sound approach is to pace yourself and continue to stay invested even in the event of crisis. A consistent stream of income from dividend will provide some buffer in times of volatility.
